Meet Kalyana Battu
a voice shaped by experience, passion, and leave imagination
Kalyana Battu is a board-certified psychiatrist whose journey spans continents, cultures, and some of the most complex corners of the human mind. Born in the historic village of Bhattiprolu in southern India, he rose from modest beginnings to become a respected physician in the United States—serving communities in both general and forensic psychiatry, including within the American prison system.
With over four decades of experience in medicine, Dr. Battu’s career has been shaped by resilience, compassion, and an unshakable belief in the power of education and service. From enduring the rigors of Indian medical school traditions to treating patients in remote missionary hospitals, from handling high-stakes surgical emergencies to navigating the emotional terrain of mental health in correctional institutions—his story is one of grit, growth, and grace.
Dr. Battu’s memoir, Mind Over Borders, is more than a personal narrative; it’s a tribute to the immigrant experience, the moral complexity of medicine, and the universal struggle to find one’s purpose. Now retired, he devotes his time to writing, mentoring, and reflecting on a life lived at the intersection of science, humanity, and cultural transformation.
He currently resides in the United States with his family.
